We didn’t manage to get everything finished in Baby Davey’s room last weekend as Ross came down with a cold and was in bed for two days, and I had back pain, leaving me even more useless than normal.

So we had one last push this weekend which was very productive. Ross finished off the last few things in Baby Davey’s room. Once the carpet is being fitted on Thursday, only pictures and curtains are left to go up. We should also be able to get all the baby paraphernalia that is currently in cardboard boxes in the front room, put away properly. At last!

Ross even managed to fit a new light at the top of the stairs, which was rather more complicated than we first imagined. Looks like the baptism of fire he had when sorting the light out in the nursery put him in good stead as once he’d decided what he was going to do, the re-wiring caused no problems at all. It was attaching the thing to the ceiling that caused the most aggravation! Still, it’s up and looks great. (Better than the ugly yellow and black thing that was there before that had one lamp missing, and one bulb that kept flickering!)

In other news, I’ve got to see a physio about my back. I was given a rather attractive tubigrip by my midwife last week when I told her about the pain I was in, and told to see my GP if it didn’t get any better. So, I went this morning, and I’ve been referred to a physio who will hopefully help me manage better.

After the fab job Ross made on the nursery (which is to be finished off this weekend, and pictures will be posted), we’ve had a bit of an ideas frenzy about what we do in the house.

We got a man in to replace all the doors in the house, as they were all funny sizes and Ross simply didn’t have the time to do it. All he has to do now is paint them.

I’ve suggested we then move into the spare bedroom and decorate our room - that should be a quick job and should only take a coat of paint, and new border, new curtain rails and light fittings.

Then we decided to get a Painter and decorator in to give us a quote to wall paper the hall, front room and stairs.
When we have ideas, it all seems to go a bit insane!

I’ve also broached the subject of Ross repainting the kitchen, which to my surprise he didn’t balk at but took in his stride.

Plugging the gaps

Spring is threatening, mind you in typical fashion, a mild February has led to a blustery, snowy and frosty March! It was because February seemed so mild that Julia and I thought that Spring was about to.. well erm.. spring, so we promptly ordered about 70 plants (plugs) and 100 odd bulbs… I merrily agreed, I mean why not, they looked great on the website - without a moments thought about who would do all the planting (doh!).

Well, there was a surprise on Monday as they all arrived in a big box. Julia opened them up, watered them all and kept them in a sheltered spot until we had time to plant them out.

This morning, Julia got out her management finger out and told me where to put the new plants… Muttering under my breath about where I would like to put them, I set to work.

There are no pictures yet, but take it from me, the ground is mostly brown - with a few specs of green. We seem to have gone backwards in this move, as before I started the ground was brown with large patches of green. However, the weeds have given way to plugs (with some mild cursing from me). Now we can sit back and wait for the plugs to grow, we got lots of ground covering plants, so no more weeding ;) (I know how naive). Unfortunately, there are still 100 odd bulbs to plant - one job for tomorrow and the coming weeks.

A Plant Fest

Since putting in hundreds of plants, bulbs and tubers last year, we’re both hoping that this year the garden will really blossom, just in time for baby davy to arrive and I’m sure we’ll be so busy we’ll need a garden oasis to relax in.

Expect pictures as soon as the colour arrives, but for those with green fingers heres what we’ve put in:

• 3 types of Clematis (thats now 6 in total)
• 2 Virginia creepers (so lots of climbers to soften the boundry’s)
• 3 Butter daisies
• 3 Golden Rods
• 3 Red Hot Pokers
• 3 Lupins
• 9 Campanulas (white and blue)
• 6 Dianthus (2 varieties)
• 3 Helianthemums
• 3 Fragrant Thymes
• 6 Gypsophyllas
• Few other bits and bobs
