Waiting Game

Posted by Julia Tue, 20 Jun 2006 21:38:00 GMT

Today is the day we’ve been working to as the day of Baby Davey’s arrival. Needless to say he hasn’t arrived!
Ross is working on the assumption that he’ll arrive tomorrow (21st), but I think Saturday (24th).
We went to the midwife today who assured us that things are moving in the right direction so it’s just a case of waiting now…

Disaster Master - Update

Posted by Julia Wed, 07 Jun 2006 19:39:00 GMT

After a week of having to leave the house at 9am, going to Tesco for my breakfast, having the same conversation with the lady on the cafe till about when I’m due, and whether I know if Baby Davey is a boy or a girl, and then spending the rest of the day at Jim and Sineads house so the decorator could work undisturbed, I’ve finally got my house back! I’m very grateful to Jim and Sinead who have a very very comfy sofa, which is very conducive to day time naps, and sky tv, so I was able to spend hours watching about weddings and babies.
Jamie, the decorator, was here from last Tuesday (29th May) to yesterday (6th June) sorting out the damage. Whilst he was here, we also got him to get rid of the nasty terracotta paintwork, so we have a lovely neutral front room, and stairs rather than the orangey nightmare that was there before. All that remains to do, is get the furniture put back as it’s currently all stacked up in Baby Davey’s room, and put some nice pictures up on the wall.
Hooray!

Few things still left to sort…

I’m 38 weeks and 1 day now, so I’m actively looking for twinges now. Nothing’s happened yet, which is just as well, as it would have been horrible bringing a Baby home with decorating going on.
The weather was good over the weekend, so we were able to get the garden looking a bit tidier, (when I say we, I sat and pointed, and Ross did the hard work…).

Livingstone Daisies

Ornamental Sage

Sunny Border

Shady Border

We’ve also got a little sparrow who has moved into the guttering at the back of the house and he’s very noisey! He’s been christened Spartacus. He might as well have a name to go with the Gerbils, Guinea Pigs, and Hamster…sad as I am!

Disaster Master

Posted by Julia Fri, 28 Apr 2006 14:15:00 GMT

Less than two months before Baby Davey is due to make his big entrance into the world, there’s a disaster in the Lawley household (Baldock Branch).

It seems our house, (The Little Crooked House), as well as having odd shaped doors, bowed door frames, rattley windows, and various other quirks, also has a leaking toilet. The first Ross and I knew about it was couple of days ago when, whilst sitting down to eat lunch, I was dripped on! Upon further investigation, we could see the ceiling was in fact dripping and that the walls were sodden and the wallpaper about to fall off. We couldn’t find the source of the leak ourselves, but thanks to an emergency plumber and a call out fee, it was found to be the water inlet pipe that goes into the toilet cistern. So this was swiftly fixed, but we now have to wait to see if the insurance will cover repairing the damage to the front room. We haven’t managed to work out if the bathroom floor is damaged yet, due to the stuck down vinyl floor tiles and ceramic wall tiles.

Hopefully we’ll be able to get a swift resolution of this, but in the meantime, we have a lovely damp smell in the front room.

Peeling Wallpaper…nice!
